Contour Line Leaves
5th grade students studied contour line to create these beautiful Fall leaves. On the first day, we learned about blind contour drawing. Blind contour drawing is when the artist looks at the object they are drawing and not their paper. They train the eye and hand to work together. Students practiced by drawing their hand and a leaf. Then they drew a leaf on a final piece of paper and traced it with black glue. After talking about warm and cool colors, students applied chalk pastel to their drawings. They turned out great!
Story Weaving
5th grade students learned about the technique of weaving. We made sketches, choosing colors that represented our lives. Then we learned a basic tabby weave technique and created our wall hangings on a cardboard loom. For more information about weaving, please check out these links:
